We had become conscious of the photography opportunities offered by Oamaru from fellow photographers and were not disappointed. A conservative north Otago town which is also Steam Punk capital of New Zealand. While having a population of only around 15,000 Oamaru services a large rural hinterland and the central town area is both substantial and notable for its architecture – supported by liberal use of Oamaru stone with a very traditional English/Scottish feel. We spent the morning making our way through town, past the historical sector, to the port where we were greeted by an incoming sea fog.
