From Oamaru the plan was to head back to the Central Otago Lakes. Googling our options we noticed a road called Danseys Pass which recalled an image from a fellow photographer. We figured if he thought it worth the trip we should give it a go. Danseys Pass joins the Waitaki District with the Maniototo, traversing the Kakanui Ranges. The road is not for the faint hearted being 50+ kilometers of high and winding, unsealed narrow road – made worse by the gentle rain which turned it to slush. But the landscapes are notable with some heroic vantage points and we struck an interesting colour palette in late autumn with great light as we emerged into the Maniototo and headed to Naseby for lunch (it turned out Naseby was “closed” and we had lunch in Ranfurly).

Hope you are enjoying the images
