The Isle of Skye sounds romantic, although I developed a worry that it may be over run with tourists from talking with locals as we made our way around the Scottish north coast. We almost didn’t make it to Skye as we found out late the day before at Ullapool that the road from the north to Skye was closed for road works. We found a work around which involved a detour taking several hours via the outskirts of Inverness and back to the Kyle of Lochalsh where you can drive over the bridge to Skye. We just had the one night and did a quick drive around and enjoyed the dramatic scenery. The main town of Portree was pleasantly touristy but the island is large enough to handle the flow of visitors late in the season. We headed down to the ferry at Armadale the next morning and caught some moody light before we boarded and headed back to the mainland.
