We struggled a bit with Southland. The drive from Queenstown to Manapouri took us past Mid Dome and dairy country reminiscent of Taranaki in the North Island. After the highlights of Fiordland we took the scenic route from Te Anau to Invercargill via the Waiau River valley and Riverton and overnighted in Invercargill before a quick drive to Tiwai Point en route to the Catlins Coast with little to show from our cameras.
