Our main excursion from London was to explore the Scottish Highlands. We took the train from London and overnighted at Berwick upon Tweed before going on to Inverness and then north from there. Berwick upon Tweed was a delightful small English town just a couple of miles south of the Scottish border. Renowned perhaps for its bridges, town wall, the oldest Barracks in England and its Georgian town hall. We worked our way around the town wall enjoying a fine and warm day at the mouth of the Tweed river as it enters the north sea before making our way back through the town to our B&B. A pleasant stopover only slightly spoiled by the less than delicious fish and chips for tea.
