Our main destination on our final club fieldtrip for 2019 was Endean’s Mill – 40 min drive north of Taumarunui. Closed for over 20 years the sawmill and most of its surrounding infrastructure still remains intact. Sprawled across 3 hectares lies a remarkable assortment of tram lines and bogies, vehicles, drying sheds, mill worker houses and stacked processed native timber in varying stages of decay. The weather was kind after our Forgotten World Highway drenching and we had the place to ourselves for a couple of hours.
