The Jean D’Arcy Conservation Reserve is 67KM from Whanganui on a mostly unsealed windy hilly road – as remote as you can get in an hour. My Whanganui Camera Club colleague Basil Hooper took me there to find the delightful New Zealand Kidney fern (Hymenophyllum nephrophyllum) in its natural environment growing on the misty ridge tops of an indigenous New Zealand Podocarp/Tawa forest. They are a challenge to photograph and I tried a variety of approaches – mostly using focus stacking. Hope you like them and thank you Basil for taking me to such a special place.
